Mas de la Source produces a wide variety of wines in the heart of the Languedoc in Southern France, using traditional Mediterranean varieties that thrive in the heat of the region, including, in the reserve red, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon. Grenache is cultivated in the traditional manner of the Languedoc on dry grown, bush-trained vines, while Cabernet Sauvignon for the blend is also dry-grown.The vineyards enjoy a high proportion of granitic topsoil, overlaying a subsoil of sand and clay with a very deep water-table, forcing vines to grow deep and impossibly complex root networks in order to obtain the water that is so vital in the harsh, dry summers. Garrigue herbs of the region grow nearby and contribute to the herbaceous minerality of the terroir. The depth of the root network ensures that the minerality of the soils is imparted to the final wine, and the vineyard's high planting density but low yield results in great concentration of fruit, and ultimately, wines of great depth, charm and character.
